C4 is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $400,000 to support technology transfer at south-western Ontario's universities and research institutions.

The funding from the Ontario Society for Excellence in Technology Transfer (OnSETT) enables C4 to hire and train up to six interns in the commercial development of promising discoveries generated by university research.

The internship program aims to recruit young from a broad range of disciplines including life science, engineering, and information technology. C4 will place these individuals at host institutions for up to three years.

C4’s members are McMaster, Guelph, Waterloo, Western, Windsor and Wilfrid Laurier universities, and Robarts Research Institute, the Lawson Health Research Institute, Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

The program fills a pressing need in Ontario for experts knowledgeable in the distinctive challenges associated with advancing very early-stage innovations arising out of university research

“Technology transfer is a complex endeavour. These interns will gain hands-on experience, helping their host institutions and expanding the pool of trained individuals in this specialized field in Ontario,” said Elsie Quaite-Randall, C4’s Principal Investigator and Executive Director of McMaster University’s Office of Research Contracts and Intellectual Property.

“This is a key step for OnSETT in building of a community of practice,” says Duncan Jones, Managing Director of OnSETT.
