Industry and Investors
There are several ways you can work with C4.
Collaborate with Us
When you have a problem that requires new thinking and research, C4 can connect you with leading researchers who can help. Sponsored research contracts are a popular method for industrial and commercial groups to gain access to the talent in C4's member universities and research institutes.
For example, a large packaged food producer was having difficulty ensuring an even distribution of flavorings on its products. Researchers from a C4 university analyzed the system and worked with the food producer to develop a sophisticated control system. Product consistency was dramatically improved and the production line was made more efficient.
Collaboration is substantially less expensive than trying to build an internal team and provides smaller firms with access to leading edge researchers and knowledge.
License a Technology from Us
With thousands of researchers, each pursuing ambitious research agendas, C4's members produce a large quantity of original research every year. Many of these technologies are available to be licensed for use commercially or by other entities. The breadth of technologies available is very broad. You can find a sample of the technologies we are actively marketing under Technologies on this website
Use Our Equipment and Services
Leading-edge research requires leading-edge equipment, universities and research institutes are home to a wide variety of specialized tools and machines. Many of these tools are uncommon in commercial setting, if there is spare capacity it is possible for companies to arrange to use these tools. Fees, availability and support options are all determined on a case-by-case basis. It should be noted that this initiative is intended to promote research and development among small- and medium-sized Ontario enterprises.
Fund a Start-Up
Some of the research discoveries made at C4 institutions are well suited to be the basis of a new company. Every year a number of new companies form to commercialize technologies. Often these firms need funding from the venture capital community. If you're an investor in early stage companies, please contact us to discuss current opportunities.
